Join the conversation with Peggy Reavey and San Pedro based photographers Ray Carofano, Dennis Keeley and Guillaume Zuili.
The Artists:
Ray Carofano’s obsession with the fringes of society began early when he was told by adults to stop hanging out with “the indigent folk by the railroad tracks.” Fortunately, Ray disobeyed this order. As a photographer Carofano seeks out faces and places society does not celebrate – or even see.
Dennis Keeley’s photographs are just abstract enough that the viewer questions depictions of the familiar. Dennis is also a teacher. Photography – and the way he teaches – is about how to live. “The taking of a picture,” Keeley says, “is pushing the button. The making is what goes on behind the camera.”
Guillaume Zulli was born in Paris, and an early trip to India awakened his passion for photography. Now, between Paris and Los Angeles, he reveals, though his 4 x 5 lens, what he calls “memories and traces.”
