“Multiples” Art Opening-Angels Gate Cultural Center
July 10, 2021
Angels Gate Cultural Center is pleased to present a new art exhibition, Multiples, opening Saturday, July 10th 2021, on view through September 12th. The artists in Multiples share a strategy of building meaning from an expanded concept of the multiple, as found in iterative series, repetition of mass-produced objects and images in new and site responsive works. The exhibition will be open by appointment viewing only, with information and appointment registration at angelsgateart.org.
“Multiples demonstrates ingenuity, the ability to create meaning in unexpected ways and examine the familiar – something much needed today as we encounter spaces and objects in person once again.” -Amy Eriksen, Executive Director, Angels Gate Cultural Center.
Multiples presents the work of Nathan Gulick, Colleen Hargaden, Seth Lower, Megan Mueller, Samuel Scharf, Noah Spindler, Katie Thoma, and Kayta Usvitsky, with a text by Hannah Sage Kay. This group of Los Angeles based artists shares a strategy of building meaning from the multiple; from iterative or serial works, the use of standardized prefabricated materials, to the accumulation of images. As Hannah Sage Kay writes in Fool Me Twice, the exhibition investigates, “what makes an encounter between object and viewer sincere? Do objects embody their functions regardless of time, place, and context?” In an effort to make citable organizational structures and units of construction in the built environment, these works challenge expectations of uniformity and predictability.
More information about the exhibition and pending appointments can be found at angelsgateart.orgg.
